You know the stained glass lamp your grandmother has? You could sell it right now for 40% profit.

Whenever I would go visit my grandmother there were 2 things that were consistent.

  1. She had the kettle on for her 7th cup of tea in 3 hours.

  2. We would go sit in that nook with the plants and trinkets.

That nook had a gorgeous stained glass lamp from the early 1900’s. My mom claims they are expensive, but we don't chat finances in this family. Thank g for google!

Turns out, these stained glass lamps are expensive. Nowadays you can find “cheaper” ones on Wayfair for $130-$180, and authentic ones could go upwards of $800. People are buying them like crazy! Well, maybe not like crazy, but they are increasing in popularity.

I love the look of these lamps, but the part that is crazy is the price.

Why is it going up?

Sorry to get a bit boring, but the first thing I looked at was the predicted market size of stained glass -- $3.22 Billion by 2025, CGAR 5.5% for 2020-2025. that's impressive for something so…random?

Next Q: What's causing this??

Interior Decor Trends, increased residential builds and automotive industry use of this glass.

  • Interior decor is a MAJOR factor in this growth.

    • Stain glass was used in churches, it lost popularity because it became a religious and political symbol.

    • Tiffany’s & Co re-popularized stained glass as an art form in the late 1890s/early 1900s, but this time for wealthy customers.

    • Today-  people are buying it as the mid-century modern trend is upticking.

  • Residential buildings use stained glass called Plate glass.

    • Increasing urbanization and a growing population are causing massive increases in residential builds. China and India lead all stained glass growth globally here.

    • Plate glass is cheaper than normal glass & has lower VOC levels (aka better for the air you breathe in).

  • Automotive industry use of stained glass specifically growing at a CAGR 6.51%

    • Emerging markets have fewer cars by population, leaving major buying potential.

So, if my grandmother asks anyone where her lamps are… it wasn’t me.
