The Stickers on your laptop created a $40.8B Market.
While sitting around a dinner table I was mentioning how large the sticker market is.
Yes, you read that correctly.
My water bottles are covered in stickers. Tons of them.
It had me wondering…
Who is paying for these stickers? Because it's not me.
Seems a bit paradoxical after googling- the sticker industry is BOOMING but I haven’t bought a damn one.
And then I realized two things:
Businesses pay for them as easy marketing.
Stickers are more than the cute things we put on our water bottles.
Just a day after this original conversation, the same people announced a new venture of theirs- they proceeded to pass me a sticker of the business icon and title. So point A is proven.
Point B: The “Sticker” industry is actually referred to as the Self-Adhesive Industry.
And! It includes a ton of things.
Food label stickers, hospital bands (the adhesive!), actual stickers you think of when I say the word, Pharmaceutical labels and more.
The US market alone was worth $40.8B in 2020 and is projected to grow to $64.9B by 2028… a projected 6.1% CAGR! That so high for something so… random.
Die cut stickers did over $185.7M in revenue in 2020 and have a projected 5.4% CAGR from 2020-2026. These are custom stickers (like what you think of).
Stickers are non-recyclable because of the plastic overlay. In 2018 large manufacturers started offering eco-friendly stickers made of grass paper.
The average profit margin… 80%.
Stickers as a consumer are a great way to communicate to the world what brand values you align with.
Stickers as a hospital or manufacturer are a great communication tool to use to speak to your end user.
I’ve never thought of stickers as a mechanism of communication, but that’s exactly what they are.
Also- after seeing that profit margin, I may be selling stickers off Etsy.
