OBSESSED with my morning routine. Heres why…

It’s taken me years to get here, but I can genuinely and confidently say I wake up happy every single morning.

Sure, there are parts of my days I’m not stoked to be a part of, but up until 9am, I am OVER the moon to be here. This routine is specific to me, but I have found a way to start my day off with community, strength, a mental reset, gratitude and clarify. So, here’s what I do and why I think it works.

5:30am- Waking up and getting dressed while walking to brush my teeth. I put my clothes on my couch at night for the gym, which I pass on my way to brush my teeth, strategic but honestly It saves me 5 minutes and I dont wake my dog up (she stays in bed until I come home and wake her up… not a morning dog haha).

6:00 am- Already at the gym, in my little section. I go to CrossFit (I think the next few sentences are true for any community though). ***THIS*** is where my day starts. I get to say hi to people every morning that also prioritize moving. It’s usually the same 6-8 guys and one other woman in the gym besides me. But we can banter throughout the workout, push each other and I leave always feeling strong. I love the feedback the coaches give me, or recently it’s been “Caite try adding 10 more pounds, I think you can do it!” It’s amazing how much you can accomplish before 7am, especially while I’ve been doing CrossFit. I have noticed my body is so much stronger, I love seeing how long I can hold a handstand after class — or I’ll send my dad a video of how many strict pull ups I was able to do. I’ve become less aware of how much space I take up and more aware of my personal capabilities. Both mentally and physically.

The immediate feeling of community and strength I get in my day makes me happy.

7:15 am: Off to walk with my dog, Macie. We walk for about an hour down the East River. We pass a park everyday where we will stop and play for a handful of minutes- dogs are so happy. The big takeaway from this walk is “GAMES”. I do it every morning, without failure. I have my monthly, yearly and 5 year goals, but this helps me reset daily.

  • Gratitude- something you’re grateful for, If you’re struggling that day to think of one I usually will say something like “I’m grateful I have this movement” or “I’m grateful I have time to sit and think like this.”

  • Affirmations- Tell yourself what you need to hear. My usual is “I am exactly where I need to be.”

  • Manifest- This is where those goals kick in. Give me something for your day, or year. I usually repeat my 6 month goal. I repeat what kind of job I want, the salary, work environment and how I feel there.

  • Envision- Here you visualize how you are going to attain your manifestation. What are the steps you’re taking TODAY to help you get there, what other steps will you plan on taking… envisioning is all about the process of getting to that end goal manifestation.

  • Silence- Some people like to meditate here, I enjoy walking with Macie, no headphones or people, and I just think about what I said for the last four points.

8:20 am- I am in from my walk, I shower, get myself prepared for work and leave around 8:50am for a 10 minute walk to work.

On Fridays Macie and I remix the walk by going to the Union Square Farmers Market, I drop off that weeks compost and Macie gets a treat from the compost man.
