This guy gave away $8,500 for $80,000 in return
Like most people, I get micro obsessions.
My newest: Grass cutting videos.
They give me an immediate satisfaction I crave. The same one I get from cleaning… but better because I’m not moving.
What starts off as a disaster (overgrown homes, tons of debris, sometimes covered sidewalks and discolored driveways), end up as beautiful properties within a days work… or an hour video.
There are a handful of accounts I watch (lol, embarrassing), but the main guy is Spencer at SB Mowing.
His youtube channel got me thinking:
Spencer works out of Wichita, Kansas.
He travels a bit into Arkansas, Texas and other southern states nearby for some bigger jobs.
The top earners for a Kansas-based Landscaper would take home just under $45,000 a year.
All of Spensers videos are jobs he has donated, just to help make homes look nicer.
He does this once a week. Lets say 9 hours of free labor weekly.
The opportunity cost of him giving away a full day of work (assuming he works 50 hour weeks, then adjusted for some holidays… 48 hours a week) would mean he is losing about $8,500 a year.
Thats 18% of his yearly salary at $45,000.
Heres the cool part though.
His Free days are what fund the content on his youtube channel.
Which boasts 1.2 million subscribers.
Lets be conservative here and say he makes the lower end on youtube.
With 1.2M subs, he could be bringing in about $80,000 per year, not accounting for affiliate links, partnerships or paid promotion.
If we break that number down to the hours he works for the content…
Those 9 hours of “free” labor actually make around $1,538.
Isn’t all that just so… Cool. We love a (nice) double edged sword. Charity & Income.
Go Spencer!
